Morocco Expansion

Our plans to expand into Morocco recently took a positive turn, with our Franchisee identifying a building in a prime location in the centre of Marrakesh - aka the key tourist destination in Morocco.

A former hotel, constructed in 2009, it has the potential to yield c.150 rooms post conversion to the easyHotel brand. The site sits in the middle of the city, so it’s minutes away from bars, restaurants and night clubs, but it’s also within easy walking distance of many cultural landmarks - such as the Koutoubia Mosque (one of the oldest around, dating back to the 11th Century), the Menara park (a historical naval training site from Moorish times) and the famous Jamaa el Fna Market Square. The airport and train station are also only 10 and 5 minutes away respectively.

If you could take your pick of locations for an easyHotel in Marrakesh, this would be it!

We are finalising the revised floorplans with our architects, who are in turn working with and supporting architects local to the area. The project will be a “turnkey” deal, delivered by the owners to our Franchisee as part of the lease to operate it under the easyHotel brand. The aim is to finalise everything for early conversion and secure an operational opening target of end Q1 2023. Other assets from the same owner are in the offing elsewhere in Morocco, which we anticipate with interest!

St John Harvey was in Marrakesh in mid-March meeting with both owners and Franchisees to visit the site and secure the commitment.
